Long story short... choose another pool builder that can build a quality product. :)
I went into the NEW WAVE POOL contract with bright eyes. Mark Vaughan was ready to build a modern pool for my new home, and I was nothing but excited and couldn't have been more optimistic that I was going to (in the words of Mark Vaughan) "get exactly what I wanted". The project stared off ok, but there was a miscommunication about how the exterior of the pool I wanted a "board formed" pool and he said thats fine- but then didn't place the forms correctly. We talked for awhile and emailed back and forth. We decided a "smooth burn finish" would be the best way to go given the misplaced forms. This sacrifice was the first of MANY. He then decided that a material called "sundeck" would be better since you can't smooth burn finish a pool (would have been nice to know before we agreed to it). Next thing I know is the pool light is in the wrong place and he never caught it. Skip to after the gunnite is poured, there is now a problem with the layout of the pool. After a long talk he changes the layout issue. Consider this the only time he was willing to work on something that was done incorrectly. The tile went in, there were a number of problems, I had to mark every single misplaced tile with tape, some of them were fixed, but we moved on anyway. Meanwhile Mark Vaughan has been out to the site possibly 3x in a matter of 3 months at this period. He has no idea what state the pool is actually in until I ask him to come look at it with me, and its reluctant. The leuter stone goes on, there are problems with how it aligns with the pool. I warned him of these problems and he insisted that we just keep moving forward with the project and "it will be fine". The Leuters stone is still not fine to this day... 6 months later... and on a project he considers "complete". He built a concrete deck that had a light designed in the step and electricity on the back. Once the deck is poured neither is in place so he says "we will just add a tree light". Move forward to the "end" of the project- my pool still has pipes exposed all around the pool, and over to my equipment. The leuters have still not been sanded properly, the deck jets don't shoot straight, the electrical outlet on the back of the deck is wrong, the sundeck material is not anywhere near par, there is a large crack in the plaster, and those are just a few of the issues. Mark says "we will take care of that as warranty work once we get final payment" and I said "no, I would like the pool completed before I make final payment." (PS: what would you do?) Next thing I know he is copying his lawer on emails and threatening to take "legal action" to get payment. Long story short... choose another pool builder that can build a quality product. :)
