Doug LaRue was exposed to creative expression at an early age by his mother, and Photography and Design from his father and Dan Coleman, a friend who studied and worked with Ansel Adams. LaRues first creative successes came when his high school yearbook staff won a national design award, was featured in a film. LaRue worked with several photographers before going to college to study Environmental Design while working as a photojournalist for newspapers, magazines and the Associated Press and United Press International.
Doug has spent years as a Medical Illustrator, attended advanced Airbrush Workshops at the Smithsonian Institute and years as an Art Director and Creative Director for publishing companies, corparations and design agencies. LaRue has served on the board of directors of the Artist Coalition of Austin and Summer in the City Arts and Music Festival, as a judge for the National Association of Government Communicators Blue Pencil and Gold Screen Awards. His work has been published in books, films, magazines and journals all around the globe.

How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
My mother taught me how to paint with oils at a very young age. I watched as she taught herself about color theory and composition. As the son of an artist and an engineer, I quickly fell in love with art and photography which led me to a degree in architecture. I interned at 14 years old with Artist Photographer, Dan Coleman who was a personal friend and professional associate of Ansel Adams. While working with Dan I also interned with 2 other photographers and found myself shooting layouts for Neiman Marcus catalogues and photojournalism for A.P. and U.P.I.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Quality and longevity of design style. My first contract was for identity designs for the Texas Dept. of Transportation, Motorcycle Safety Bureau in 1994. The designs are still in use today
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
One location in Austin, Texas with plans to build a 5000 Sq. Ft. production studio in Austin in the near future.
