Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
19 years in Austin, 13 years in Los Angeles, 5 years in New York. I came back to Texas in 1996 when both parents had health crises at the same time and spent 14 years as caregiver while starting my business from scratch in Austin.
What is your primary product or service?
Helping clients - whether one-on-one or in small groups - to gain confidence, overcome nervousness and use their natural individuality to connect with audiences of all kinds. I do this by helping clients overcome fear, be themselves, use their own stories and anecdotes, and connect with audiences on a human level.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I was an actor and comedy writer in New York and then took a corporate job with Avon Products that led to my career as a speechwriter/speech coach for major corporations on both coasts. I specialized in working with executives from managers to CEOs to help them become more effective presenters and make a real impact on sales and profits.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I use my skills as a published author and speechwriter to help clients edit their presentations - if needed - so that when we work
on delivery the content is in great shape. I create a safe space for clients to work and help them make positive changes and overcome speaking problems in a short time frame. I go out of my way to be there for clients when they need me - whatever the time. My goal is to make each person succeed using their own unique abilities and personality. There is no one way to be a good speaker -- there's your way done right.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
One location. I work with clients nationally but have no plans to open new offices.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Go northwest on 183 and exit at Anderson Mill. Go about a quarter mile on the frontage road and turn right at Hunter's Chase. Go through the first light at Pond Springs and then turn right at the second stop sign - across from a tennis court - on to Cahill. Turn right at the next street, Turkey Ridge Court, and my office is 12505, on the left, right before the cul-de-sac.
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash, Check, PayPal
Which areas do you service?
I speak internationally on communication skills and primarily work with clients in the Austin area on speech coaching and presentation skills.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I do.
What are your hours of operation?
Whenever I'm needed. If someone has a speech on Monday morning at nine and wants to rehearse on Sunday, I'm available after church and will do a run-through at 7 a.m. on Monday morning! Normally I work from 8 till 6, but will meet clients needs whenever I can.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
Jim helped me be myself for the first time when giving a speech. For the time ever I enjoyed speaking!
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
Franklin Delano Roosevelt
