In 1986 the federal government passed a bill that allowed groups of similar businesses to band together to utilize their collective buying power to obtain liability coverage through risk purchasing groups. We began accessing one of the first purchasing groups in 1988 and in 1993 we began to operate the first Texas liability risk purchasing group for apartment owners to benefit smaller owners.
We began to use this group concept for property insurance in 1992 and since then our group property insurance programs have saved apartment owners millions of dollars in premiums and paid millions of dollars for covered losses. We have also provided coverage and paid for losses in areas that most traditional policies had not previously provided to smaller apartment owners.
We continue to provide group property and liability insurance for Texas apartment owners, but also obtain insurance on an individual policy basis whenever it better benefits the property owner.
